The Hamish & Milo experience with Netherton CofE Primary School, Dudley

Welcome to this showcase webinar from Netherton CofE Primary School in Dudley, where Lisa Ryall-White, Inclusion Lead and SENCO shares their school’s journey with the Hamish & Milo Programmes.

Netherton CofE Primary School began their journey as part of a pilot group of schools in Dudley, West Midlands in January 2024. From the outset, the focus was on designing thoughtful, needs-led interventions, with two trained teaching assistants delivering the programmes to support children’s emotional literacy, resilience and self-esteem.

Over the past year, Netherton CofE Primary has successfully embedded a range of Hamish & Milo programmes including Amazing me, Exploding me, New beginnings and me and Resilient me to nurture pupils’ wellbeing and strengthen whole-school inclusion. Lisa shares an honest and practical insight into how the school approached implementation, what they have learned along the way, and the positive impact they are seeing for children across their community.

"Hamish & Milo gives them a group experience, being with other children who have had similar experiences. They realise they are not alone and you are explicitly teaching them the social and emotional skills so they become more aware and more empowered.”

“Hamish & Milo has changed our approach as a school for quantity and quality of pastoral support. It has raised awareness too for most staff of how emotional wellbeing comes before learning can really take place and it is central to what we do at Wicklea.”
