Our tips for getting started

  • Read our introduction booklet – vital information on the programme approach, advice and guidance.

  • Sign up for an Explorer training session – free 90-minute implementation training for all staff.
  • Select your children – identify social and emotional needs through discussion with SENCO and teachers. Use Compass to guide you in selecting the right programme.
  • Send home the parent/carer booklets – to raise awareness and share the approach along with a parental consent letter if appropriate.
  • Establish an impact baseline – complete the child wellbeing profiles to identify presenting behaviours and protective factors.
  • Child’s voice questionnaire – help the children to complete the pre-intervention section as a baseline of their perspective.

  • Gather resources – read the checklist and session plans and gather the resources for your sessions.
  • Make sure you have your sock puppet craft kit – have an initial session with your group to make the sock puppet pets and help the group to bond together.
  • Wellbeing journals and stickers – have the wellbeing journals and stickers ready for the children!
