Supervision Hub Sessions
Our Supervision Hubs allow for contributions, thoughts and ideas from Hamish & Milo Champions and the supervisor will offer their thoughts and support to inform and develop insight and delivery of the programme.
Central to our approach is supporting pastoral staff in their delivery so we offer supervision sessions for any staff involved in running our Hamish & Milo wellbeing programmes.
We recognise that working with children, especially those with social, emotional and mental health needs, means that staff have to ‘hold steady’ and contain much of the emotional experiences that children share or hold within them. We fully understand that however rewarding, this work can be emotionally hard. Pastoral staff need to feel valued, acknowledged and supported. We therefore believe that it is essential for staff to be given the time to reflect on their experience of running a wellbeing programme, the experiences the children have through the intervention and to be offered time to share their reflections so that they can deepen awareness, consolidate and develop practice and develop their ongoing confidence in facilitating Hamish & Milo.
We know many schools provide opportunities for in-house supervision times with other staff or external agencies and we promote and support this too. As schools are at the forefront of supporting children with their wellbeing, supervision is very much a growing part of school culture, ethos and practice.
Support, impact and best practice
During the sessions, participants will be encouraged to talk about their experiences of the programmes, content and impact and particularly any challenges that may have arisen.
Our sessions offer a safe, confidential and reflective space to allow participants to review their work. Safeguarding protocols will be followed and unless a child is seen to be at risk, the discussions will be confidential to enable everyone to feel safe and able to personally reflect on their experience and the experiences of the children in their care.
Sharing best practice, celebrating the journey as well as acknowledging highlights are also important aspects of the sessions.
We hope to support you through our supervision hubs and to build a network of Hamish & Milo champions!
